DONE!!!
Good Morning and Happy Saturday. Hope you have a wonderful, relaxing weekend planned. It is official I am done with my radiation and chemotherapy. Radiation should never happen again. May have to do chemotherapy again but not for a while. Go back for an MRI, March 18th. Kind of odd. It will not show exactly how the radiation impacted the tumor because there will still be swelling but will be a baseline, then the MRI in April will give us a true visual of how the radiation impacted the tumor.
I always say this, a quick thought this morning. Usually not a quick thought for me, but honestly hope it give the reader a quick thought to spend a little time with that might be helpful.
I got my certificate yesterday for finishing radiation. The staff at UT Southwestern are simply, amazing!!! I can’t imagine the work they do everyday, dealing with so many people that are literally dying and some who won’t be around much longer. They also have some who will get through the treatment, heal and live much longer. They could not have been more caring and gracious to me.
They were people that influenced my mindset in a positive way. I have written to this on and off and will continue to emphasize how important my mindset is and how important your mindset is. There are many, many simple ways to take control of your mindset. This is connected to the idea I wrote about earlier this week. It is about you! Because you and I can learn to do things that influence and control our mindset.
One of the key areas for me has been physical fitness. All of my adult life I have exercised, worked out consistently and it influences my mindset. During the radiation and chemotherapy that was maybe as challenging as it has ever been for me. I am probably the weakest I have been as an adult and my endurance is low. I understand why, but it has still been a little challenging for me.
Two weeks ago I started a 6 week workout challenges with Onnit Fitness. It has been so helpful and I am a big fan of these guys. I am doing a body weight only workout. They had 5-6 options. My preference would have been the kettlebell workout but I knew that would kick my butt right now. The program was $49, which has been a great value and I have tried to engage with the community component they offer.
In the past I would not have done this and would not have engaged in the community part in anyway. I have for the most part worked out by myself and value that time. Because of what I have been going through I needed this workout plan, support and process. I am doing the basic, entry level workout, which again in the past I would not have done and if I had I would not have shared that information with anyone.
So, here is where I am going with this. If you are going to care for anyone, if you do work that is focused on others, you have to take good care of you! In fact, the greatest service you can do for others is to take good care of yourself! When you and I take good care of ourselves it also impacts our “mindset” in positive ways.
Here is the question. What are some areas in your life that you need to find better, consistent ways to take good care of yourself? Or maybe this question. What are things that you do that are not good self-care and influence your mindset in a negative way?
Have a beautiful weekend and remember.
You are loved and of great value!!!
Peace,
