Happy Day!

Happy Day! I guess technically it is, Happy Valentines Day!!

There was a time in my life where I believed, Valentines Day was lame and many men used it as the one day to do something for your wife. I use to think, “that doesn't really count.” I was off base. Doing something thoughtful and kind for a spouse always matters. I still believe that needs to happen often, but any opportunity matters.

I am going to shift gears to an event Natalie and I were part of Saturday. This was one of the few events in the last 2+ years I honestly was looking forward to going to. Social events have been a little challenging for me. That seems to be improving.

Saturday was a chili competition. The event was outside and there were around 20 different people competing. The weather was beautiful. I supported Natalie, did a few little things but she prepared our chili for competition.

If I am being honest, the chili was not the best part for me. I think I tasted maybe 3 different chilis in the big competition. What I truly enjoyed was the interaction with different people. One was very special.

Emily is one of Natalie’s closest friends, a good friend of mine as well and she was one of the host for this chili contest. Her dad, Mitchell was there and I got to visit with him.

I have a lot of respect for this man. His wife passed away about 13 months ago. Natalie and I were able to attend the celebration that was given for her life. It was a special day! Mitchell is a man who grieves the loss of his wife and is working to live life and move forward. He would tell you there are days that can be very challenging. You lose the person you love and the grief journey never goes away. When it is worked on you can continue to live life well, but there are still days your heart will ache.

This picture of Mitchell and I was taken that afternoon. He turned his hat for the pic, so I was being like him. I love and respect this guy. The short time with him Saturday made the chili competition very special.

Have a happy valentines day! It is a great opportunity for YOU to let SOMEONE know!!!!!!!!

“YOU ARE LOVED AND OF GREAT VALUE!”
