RISK

Good Morning, hope your week is going well. I head to the hospital shortly and will have surgery. They will put me in ICU tonight and then a regular room the next 2-3 days. I should be out of the hospital Saturday or Sunday if all goes well. Can’t express how much the text and emails have meant to me. I appreciate the love and support so many of you have sent our way. A quick thought this morning.

Have you ever thought about the value of risk and the danger of risk. Like most things in this life, risk can have a great payoff and risk can really have a great cost. I am thinking that without risk of different kinds, life can become very meaningless and uneventful.

So the idea today is, “we need to take different risk in this life.” The bigger idea is, maybe it is wise to take “calculated risk” vs “mindless risk.”

A calculated risk, would involve some thought process, getting some good information, discussing with people who have some wisdom and stepping into that risk prepared. Think about some of the risk you have taken in your life. Maybe something you tried in school, maybe a physical challenge that was a little bit of a risk. Relationships involve some risk. Choosing marriage has some risk involved, different career tracks, all these things truly involve some level of risk. The reality is, taking no risks in life can keep you stuck and your life pretty bland.

Some people take pointless, un-calculated risk that simply create pain and problems. They don’t think through, get wise counsel, good advice and their life can become a train-wreck.

The simple idea today is that there are times in our lives we need to take a calculated risk. It gives us the opportunity to grow, have more impact, influence and for our lives to be more of who we were created to be. Life is full of risk.

This surgery for me today is a risk. I am not excited about any part of it. Really have no desire to have it. The flip side is I believe it is worth the risk.

Walking in FAITH, takes risk. I am not sure people understand that. There is a level of faith that is stepping into the unknown and trusting that God will be present.

So, walk in faith, take risk and make a difference in the world you live in.
